China Eastern Airlines 'C919 använder SAF för första gången på kommersiell väg
20 september 2024- China Eastern Airlines successfully operated its domestically developed C919 aircraft using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for the first time on a commercial flight on September 19. Flight MU9192 departed from Beijing Daxing International Airport at 17:16 and arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 19:01 the same day.

According to the Civil Aviation News of China, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) jointly launched the SAF application pilot program in Beijing on September 18. As part of the pilot, starting from September 19, twelve flights operated by Air China, China Eastern Airlines, and China Southern Airlines departing from Beijing Daxing, Chengdu Shuangliu, Zhengzhou Xinzheng och Ningbo Lishe flygplatser kommer att drivas med SAF .
The report states that SAF is an aviation fuel produced from renewable resources or waste materials. It offers significant emissions reductions across its entire lifecycle and is highly compatible with existing aircraft and civil aviation infrastructure. This pilot program will be implemented in two phases, focusing on key areas such as fuel supply assurance, quality monitoring, effectiveness evaluation, and the establishment of standards and Mekanismer .
The first phase runs from September to December 2024, with participation from Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and the airports of Beijing Daxing, Chengdu Shuangliu, Zhengzhou Xinzheng, and Ningbo Lishe. The second phase will cover the entirety of 2025, with the number of participating units gradually ökar .
För att säkerställa säkerhet har alla SAF som används under piloten fått luftvärdighetscertifiering från CAAC . CAAC styr också China National Aviation Fuel Group (CNAF) för att implementera strikta kvalitetskontrollåtgärder för bränslet .}
